Make your own Wintry Mix in Week 12 of "15 Weeks of Friluftsliv"
Tired of winter? Time to mix it up.
Forecast: Wintry Mix (of moves and music!)
We’ve made it to Week 12 of “15 Weeks of Friluftsliv” and with only 3 weeks left of our winter adventures, we’re feeling a mix of emotions. Ready for spring, but aware that there is likely more winter weather to come. This is the perfect moment to flex your friluftsliv. You’ve got this—whatever wintry mix comes your way. Make it your wintry mix. Embrace that open air life.
It’s ok that one day will be rain, the next snow, and the next over 50 degrees, you can dance through it all. We mean this literally and figuratively. Check out this week’s activity guide to make your own wintry mix dance party of music and moves inspired by the season.
1. A Wintry Mix of Music + Moves - Week 12 Activity Guide
If you have never danced outside, this is the winter to try it. Make your own “wintry mix” of music and moves to chill in the best way possible. Bundle up in your warmest (or most ridiculous) winter gear and let the season move you. This week’s activity guide shares music and moves to create the ultimate outdoor dance adventures.

2. What’s with the sausage? — Recipe of the week
We learned the funniest word and trend this week: “mammakorv.” It’s a Swedish word that translates as “mom sausage” and it refers to the trend of long puffy coats that many women in Sweden are embracing. This was especially funny to us because these coats have been popular with generations of moms here in the United States where they are known as “sleeping bag coats” and “recess coats.” They are incredibly warm and practical (and are not just for moms), so in celebration of inadvertently being trendy, Friluftsliving Family made a reel on Instagram to offer some spicy mom sausage. The reel is sizzling and we’ve been delighted to welcome new friluftsliving friends who appreciate finding some joy in winter. (H/T to
for teaching us this word in a story she shared on Instagram this week. Linda’s Open Air Life is an excellent book on “frilufstliv” and you’ll find out 15 Weeks of Friluftsliv adventures mentioned in the last chapter!)In honor of “mammakorv,” we’re sharing another funny fact through our recipe of the week: Scandinavians love hot dogs! We were so surprised at the variety of hot dog recipes (Swedish, Danish, Norwegian) and how good they are (flavor combos not found at U.S. ballparks!).
This recipe from True North Kitchen is our current favorite.
Put on your mammakorv and go grill some up!
